Berlin (dpa) – The production of electric power from solar energy reached an all-time high in Germany in July. “Around 10 terawatt hours of solar power was generated in July, more than ever before in a single month – even though solar radiation was lower than last year,” said Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Robert Habeck. “This means that our measures are taking effect and solar power is on the increase. The expansion is in full swing.”
The expansion of solar installations has clearly picked up speed. According to figures provided by the Federal Network Agency, the growth rate doubled over the previous year to almost 14 gigawatts.
The Ministry of Economic Affairs said that the output of installed solar systems totalled more than 90 gigawatts as of the end of June. This means that the Federal Government met its 2024 target of 88 gigawatts of installed capacity within the first six months of the year. Installed capacity is to reach 215 gigawatts by 2030.
