The federal government has promised additional staff to help work through a backlog of unprocessed passport applications as some people are forced to forgo travel plans.
The government has established a new call centre which will see 35 staff brought in this week and an additional 35 staff next week.
“You’ve got the travel sector which has effectively been shut for the best part of two years and it has now reopened – travel is back,” Intrepid Travel CEO James Thornton said.
