Deputy Liberal Leader Sussan Ley has been ejected from the chamber during Question Time for abuse of Standing Orders after asking Prime Minister Anthony Albanese if he was able to “count to 100”.
In a question posed to the Prime Minister, Ms Ley queried why the Reserve Bank met almost 100 times when the previous government was in office and raised interest rates once, while the RBA has met eight times during the Albanese government’s term and raised interest rates eight times.
“Using his economics degree, can the Prime Minister confirm that under the Coalition interest rates rose about one per cent of time, but under Labor they are rising 100 per cent of the time,” Ms Ley said in her question to Mr Albanese.
While the Prime Minister was answering the question, Ms Ley interjected on a point of order on relevance to ask if the Prime Minister could count to 100.
“I have been more than tolerant with this abuse of Standing Orders,” Speaker of the House Milton Dick said.
“This is not the first time the Deputy Leader has done this. As much as I don’t want to do this, she will leave the chamber under 94(a) for abuse of … Standing Orders.”
