Police surround a house on Karamea Crescent in Kelvin Grove, Palmerston North on Thursday.
Police blocked off a residential street and surrounded a home in Palmerston North after an incident on Thursday.
Several officers could be seen outside the house on Karamea Crescent about midday.
Cordons had been set up at nearby streets and a woman who attempted to drive through said she was turned around.
She said she saw a large number of police and heard a loud bang before seeing a blue car “all smashed up” in a driveway.
The rear of the blue car was significantly damaged, and two police cars were seen being taken away from the scene on tow trucks.

A neighbour said their family also heard a loud bang but did not know what happened.
A police officer at the scene said they were waiting on a tow truck and police photography before they could reopen the road.
A police media spokesperson said it looked like the incident was a breach of the peace and there was “not a lot of information currently available”.
Police also attended a separate incident on Coventry St at about 3pm.
Several officers, in unform and plain clothing, could be seen on the road near its intersection with Hull Place.
They appeared to be interested in a grey Honda Accord which was towed from the scene.
Further comment has been sought from police.
