Australia have won the toss and elected to bowl in the series-opening T20 clash with India in Mohali.
With Mitch Marsh and Marcus Stoinis not on tour due to injury, power hitter Tim David was named for his international debut.
The 26-year-old has dominated in numerous T20 domestic leagues all around the world, and a good series against India would thrust him into the selection mix for next month’s World Cup.
“I think he’s an X-factor,” Test captain Pat Cummins said of David earlier this week.
“He just goes about it slightly differently.”
Allrounder Cameron Green was included in the XI following his recent hot form in the ODI arena.
Star India paceman Jasprit Bumrah, who missed the recent Asia Cup with a back injury, wasn’t named for the series-opening T20 fixture.
Australia: Aaron Finch (capt), Cameron Green, Steve Smith, Glenn Maxwell, Josh Inglis, Tim David, Matthew Wade, Pat Cummins, Nathan Ellis, Adam Zampa, Josh Hazlewood
India: Rohit Sharma (capt), KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Dinesh Karthik, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Harshal Patel, Umesh Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal
