Everton Women have signed Netherlands striker Katja Snoeijs on a free transfer from Bordeaux.
Snoeijs spent the last two seasons competing in France with Bordeaux where she scored 29 goals and produced 16 assists across all competitions, before departing on a free transfer at end of last season and has now signed a two-year contract at Everton until June 2024.
“I’m really excited to be here,” commented Snoeijs as she spoke to evertontv. about making the move across to English football, during which she added: “This is a big club with a lot of history in the women’s game in England.
Snoeijs also praised the competitiveness of England football as she continued: “England has the best league in Europe. I’ve followed this league from distance, and you see teams develop and grow.”
This season will also be Everton’s first campaign under new management as Brian Sorensen takes charge of the club.
Snoeijs is Sorensen’s second signing after Jess Park joined on a season-long loan from Manchester City and the Dutch striker is “impressed” with Sorensen’s plans following conversations as she stated her belief that he will be “the right coach to help the team grow and take this club forward.”
“I just want to focus on the basic things. Scoring goals, being important in attack, but also helping to bring some experience,” commented Snoeijs on her targets this season.
Snoeijs also spoke of her long-term ambitions as she continued: “Hopefully with my experience from abroad and with the national team, I can help the Club achieve beautiful things in the upcoming seasons.”
Sorensen added that the 25 year-old Netherlands international is a “top player” and is “delighted” to welcome her to Everton, as he explained why he signed Snoeijs in which he said: “In this league, speed is crucial, and she has that.”
The Danish manager also spoke about sharing the same vision as Snoeijs for Everton’s future following conversations, during which they discussed the club’s style of play.
Snoeijs plays for Netherlands in international football where she has scored nine goals in 13 appearances but was snubbed for their title defence at this summer’s UEFA Women’s Euro 2022.
