Outgoing UK prime minister Liz Truss entered 10 Downing Street after an eight-week leadership campaign – but the process to install her replacement could take less than a week.
Ms Truss resigned from the top job after just 44 days in office.
Speculation has already begun on who could replace her – with former finance minister Rishi Sunak and leader of the House of Commons Penny Mordaunt two of the top contenders.
Former prime minister Boris Johnson has also been touted for a potential comeback.
Nominations are open and will close at midnight on Tuesday – Australian Eastern Daylight time.
Candidates must secure 100 nominations from MPs to get through.
