Hunter Yeany has signed to race for Carlin in 2023 FIA F3 season.
Yeany first joined F3 during the 2021 season where he failed to score any points in six races for Charouz across Belgian and Dutch rounds, before he joined Campos this season for a full-time campaign which again yielded zero points.
Yeany’s season though was limited to just six rounds after he suffered a wrist injury during an accident in 2022 Austrian Sprint Race, which forced him to withdraw from the Feature Race and following three rounds.
Nevertheless, the 17 year-old American was able to race in the final round at Monza, Italy before driving for Carlin at Jerez, Spain, in the first of a three-day post-season test.
Speaking about his decision to join Carlin for 2023, Yeany said: “I’m really excited to announce that I will be racing with Carlin in Formula 3 next year. Carlin was the first team I ever tested with in Europe so it feels like a bit of a coming home! Let’s rock it in 2023!”
Carlin Team Principal, Trevor Carlin added that the team “are really happy” to sign Yeany following Zak O’Sullivan’s departure last month to join PREMA.
Explaining why the team have swooped for Yeany amidst his poor record in F3, Carlin said: “We thoroughly enjoyed working with Hunter in the post-season test, it was nice for us to have a driver with some experience of the FIA F3 car to give us some direction, so I look forward to continuing that relationship.
“We feel Hunter has far more potential than he has shown, especially because he missed a handful of races due to injury last year.”
Yeany is the first driver to sign for Carlin’s F3 line-up next season with his two teammates set to be confirmed in due course, ahead of a season in which F3 will head Down Under to Melbourne, Australia for the very first time.
