Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Navy (IRGCN) formally received
Martyr Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis
(PC313-01), a new type of stealthy missile-armed catamaran, during a ceremony held at the force’s main base in Bandar Abbas on 6 January.
IRGCN commander Rear Admiral Alireza Tangsiri said the new vessel, which is named after an Iraqi militant leader who was killed in a US airstrike along with the IRGC’s Major General Qasem Soleimani, has a range of 2,000 n miles, an endurance of 14 days, and has four engines that give it a speed of 37 kt.
While Rear Adm Tangsiri was cited as saying it is the second in the IRGC’s Shahid Soleimani class, which is also a catamaran, it is significantly smaller at 47 m in length and has a different hull design.
The media coverage of the event showed it has the same 30 mm weapon station as
Shahid Soleimani
