Israeli jets have pummeled more than ‘600 Hamas terror targets’ in just 24 hours as it prepares to intensify ground assault operations in Gaza.
The military said Monday that overnight its troops had killed dozens of militants who attacked from inside buildings and tunnels, and that strikes had destroyed a building Hamas was using as a staging post.
It said it had struck more than 600 militant targets, including weapons depots and anti-tank missile launching positions. The reports of targeting could not be independently confirmed.
Health officials claim evacuating a hospital the Israeli forces want to bomb in Gaza is “impossible” because patients would die being taken off ventilators.
The Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) is in a dangerous stand-off with Israel Defense Forces (IDF) commanders who have issued an order to clear al Quds Hospital in Gaza City.
The IDF have made repeated calls to medics at the facility, including two more warnings on Sunday, but so far doctors and the PRCS have refused to move saying some 14,000 people are seeking shelter in the building and compound.
Despite no evacuation taking place, the PRCS claimed two airstrikes struck just 50 metres from the hospital on Sunday.
It says babies, the elderly and young children are all being treated at the facility, meaning moving is impossible.
Dr Ghassan Abu-Sittah, a medic from North London is working at another hospital nearby, al Shifa, and he told Sky News: “Nobody’s left Shifa, nobody’s leaving anywhere.”
Israeli forces believe Hamas is using hospitals as cover and they say they have “concrete evidence” the terrorists use the buildings to launch attacks.
The Gaza health authority says more than 8,000 have been killed since the war sparked by Hamas began, which saw the death of more than 1,400 Israelis.
