TOKYO — Japan is entering a new phase in its nuclear energy strategy, with Prime Minister Fumio Kishida set to order the development and construction of next-generation nuclear power plants at Wednesday’s meeting of the GX (Green Transformation) Implementation Council at the Prime Minister’s Office.
This marks a major shift from the country’s current policy of backing away from the building of new nuclear power plants.
