Manchester City have recalled striker, Liam Delap from his loan spell at Stoke City and sent him on loan to Preston North End for rest of 2022-23 season.
Delap joined Stoke in mid-August 2022 on loan and has since managed to score three goals in 23 appearances for the Potters, yet Man City have opted to terminate his loan spell early with a recall in order to send him on loan to Preston until end of this season on loan.
Speaking about his decision to switch his loan spell in the Championship from Stoke to Preston, Delap commented: “I’m buzzing. It’s such a great club and I’m really excited to meet the boys and play in front of the fans.”
Delap added that he has already spoken with manager, Ryan Lowe, and is “really happy” with his “style of football”, so is excited to begin playing under the ex Plymouth Argyle boss,
The 19 year-old striker added that Lowe expects goals from him which Delap believes he can achieve, as he said: “I trust myself in front of goal. I trust myself to get in the right positions so if I get the opportunity then hopefully I can bring that.”
Lowe added that he and the club had targeted Delap in the summer due to his performance in Man City’s Under-23s and first-team involvement, which has seen him score one goal in six senior appearances for City since making his debut in September 2020.
Upon news of Delap’s recall from his stint at Stoke City, Lowe believed that now was an “important” time to swoop for the youngster on loan and is “really pleased” to finally secure one of his main targets of last summer.
On what he will expect of Delap as Preston target the play-offs this season, Lowe said: “He’s a good lad, a good footballer and a goalscorer. He just needs an opportunity to score goals and hopefully we can give him that.”
Man City meanwhile issued the following statement on their website:: ‘He will now continue his development at Preston and everyone at City wishes him the best of luck for the rest of the season.’
Delpa will wear the number seven shirt at Preston and could make his debut at Deepdale on Saturday (14 January) against Norwich City.
