A MAN has reportedly killed his ex-partner and himself after bomb in a shoe box exploded outside a kids’ playground in Spain.
The terrifying incident happened in Orio, near San Sebastian, which left two people dead, cops said.
The Basque regional security department said the incident happened around 5.30pm, with two bodies being discovered following the blast.
Local newspaper Diario Vasco said authorities were investigating the incident as possible gender-based violence.
Detectives believe the man was carrying a bomb in a shoe box, it was reported.
The woman is allegedly his ex-partner and was found dead on the park bench with injuries including head wounds.
She is understood to have had a brief relationship with her alleged killer, which ended recently.
Neighbours who knew her have described her as a “kind” woman.
A bystander who was near the park was also injured.
Inigo Urkullu, president of the Basque Government, confirmed the two deaths could be linked to an incident of gender-based violence.
He said: “We arrive at this meeting with pain and sadness in the face of a tragic incident which has occurred this afternoon in Orio with two people dead allegedly as the result of sexist violence.”
