Amarjit Maxwell has been appointed as Think Hauora’s new chief executive.
The MidCentral region’s primary health organisation has a new leader keen to ensure that whānau and community aspirations remain at the forefront of its services.
Think Hauora, which serves Palmerston North, Feilding, Dannevirke, Levin, Ōtaki and the surrounding communities, has appointed Amarjit Maxwell as its new chief executive.
Chairperson Dr Bruce Stewart said Maxwell had a passion for primary and community healthcare.
For the past two years, she had been the chief executive of Collaborative Aotearoa, a national network of primary health organisations and supporting partners.
During her career she had been involved in the “transformation of primary healthcare in Aotearoa”, working with PHOs across the country, Stewart said.
“Through this mahi, Amarjit has been instrumental in the establishment of the Health Care Home model of care. Her background has also included local government across both the UK and Aotearoa.”
A trained management accountant, Maxwell was an advocate for primary healthcare on key issues such as funding, workforce and equity, he said.
She said Think Hauora was a leader in the field, paving the way for high-quality primary and community care that addressed health disparities within the rohe.
“I admire the focus of Think Hauora on wellbeing, resilience, prevention, and recovery and how it is applied to all sectors of the community, ensuring whānau and community aspirations remain at the forefront,” she said.
“Think Hauora is known for supporting and working alongside iwi and Māori providers across the health, social and community sectors. It is this that I am most passionate about, and I can continue this journey with an innovative and results-based approach.
“I am very much looking forward to embarking on my next journey with Think Hauora kaimahi, with iwi, partners, the network and community.”
