Berlin (d.de) – The first regulations for the planned heating transition in Germany will take effect from 2024, with the aim of achieving climate-neutral heating with renewable energy by 2045. From 1 January onwards, most new buildings must be fitted with heating systems based on 65 percent renewable energy. Longer transitional periods apply for existing buildings, for example. The replacement of a heating system is subsidised by the state.
The new regulations for switching to climate-friendly heating systems are closely linked to a law on heat planning in municipalities. The aim is to inform local residents and businesses about the best way to heat buildings in the future. The Federal Government has pledged to support local authorities by providing 500 million euros. These plans are part of the envisaged energy transition that is to enable to Germany to become a climate-neutral industrialised country by 2045.
