Geneva Centre for Security Policy’s Jim Fanell says training crews to operate the new nuclear-powered submarines “absolutely” needs to happen now.
He said training has to go on concurrently “right now”.
“You have to have the crews that are trained to operate on a nuclear submarine,” he told Sky News host Chris Kenny.
“That’s not like operating on a Collins-class diesel boat or even on a Japanese lithium-powered boat, battery-powered boat.
“So you need people that understand nuclear technology, nuclear power, the safety regulations and all that goes into that.”
