Earlier today, federal Health Minister Greg Hunt revealed that there have been 777 COVID-related deaths in aged care since July 1, 2021.
RN Breakfast host Patricia Karvelas pointed out that, yesterday, Aged Care Minister Richard Colebeck was unable to reveal how many of those deaths were people who hadn’t received a booster shot. However, we do know that almost 80,000 aged care residents are yet to receive their third dose (or their fourth, if they are immunocompromised).

“That’s a figure that comes from the states … through the coronial process or other processes and, at this stage, they have not yet been provided,” Mr Hunt said.
“Have you asked for [the figures]?” Karvelas asked.
“Of course we have,” Mr Hunt replied.
“Ninety-nine per cent of facilities have received those boosters. My gentle messaged to families is please, please allow your … families, your loved ones to have that booster to provide that consent.
“What we are seeing is that there are families or individuals who are making their own choice not to receive that. That opportunity [to get boostered] has been there right across the sector.”
