The queen’s state funeral will take place at Westminster Abbey on Sept. 19. Ahead of the funeral, the queen will lie in state in Westminster Hall for four days, to allow the public to pay their respects, Buckingham Palace said in a statement.
The queen’s coffin is currently in the ballroom at Balmoral Castle and it will be taken to the the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh on Sunday. It will stay in the Throne Room until Monday.
There will be a procession on Monday at the Palace of Holyroodhouse to convey the coffin to St Giles’ Cathedral in Edinburgh. The king and members of the royal family will take part in the procession and attend a service in St Giles’ Cathedral to receive the coffin.
The coffin will then be taken to Buckingham Palace on Tuesday. On Wednesday, the coffin will be taken from Buckingham Palace to the Palace of Westminster, where the queen will lie in state in Westminster Hall until the morning of the state funeral.
After the funeral, the coffin will travel in procession from Westminster Abbey to Wellington Arch, before being taken to Windsor Castle. A committal service will then take place in St. George’s Chapel.
