This stolen canister containing radioactive materials was recovered in a Gqeberha scrapyard.
A wave of panic that swept over Nelson Mandela Bay when a canister containing a radioactive isotope was stolen from a vehicle in Gqeberha on Friday has passed after the canister – seemingly untouched – was recovered on Tuesday.
On Monday, police released a media statement warning the public about the potential danger of radiation poisoning following the theft of the canister.
The vehicle, which belonged to the owners of a welding business in the metro, was parked at a guesthouse in Mulder Avenue, Sydenham when it was broken into at approximately 06:00 on Friday.
