SUMMARY: China’s COVID infection rate soars and the government announces that they will no longer release COVID infection statistics. Travelers need to be aware of the situation and factor it into their own travel risk equation. In the Western United States, powerful storms which are predicted to pack a potential deadly punch are forecasted. In southwestern Germany, a railstrike today is disrupting travel.
Sections:
United States – California braces for a atmospheric river coupled with high winds. The National Weather Service issued their warning, “The impacts will include widespread flooding, roads washing out, hillside collapsing, trees down (potentially full groves), widespread power outages, immediate disruption to commerce, and the worst of all, likely loss of human life. This is truly a brutal system that we are looking at and needs to be taken seriously.”
United States/Canada – The travel meltdown which occurred at end of year continues to have a ripple affects as baggage and their owners have not yet found each other. At Vancouver’s International Airport for example there remains 2000 bags which have yet to be processed to be returned to their owners.
Germany – Rail strike takes place today in Southwest Germany Baden-Württemberg region, travel disruptions assured.
China – As COVID cases in China soar, the government announced they were no longer going to release COVID infection statistics. Clearly obfuscation of the pandemic’s footprint in China is a political decision, which every traveler needs to take on board if planning travel to China, as lack of information may place travelers at risk of exposure and the attendant mandatory isolation inside China.
