Weather LIVE Updates: Several areas in Mumbai and Kolkata are facing waterlogging after heavy rains on Monday. The regional weather department of Dehradun has sounded a yellow alert for Pithoragarh, Champawat, Bageshwar and Nainital in Uttarakhand. An orange alert has also been issued for heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated areas of Uttarakhand from September 14 to 16.
The Bengaluru civic body has kicked off a demolition drive to pull down illegal encroachments on storm water drains. The BBMP on Monday started the demolition in eight places, which were allegedly causing flooding in and around Bellandur in Mahadevapura zone. The city was inundated with severe waterlogging last week, with many homes and roads submerged, leading to a public outcry about the city’s infrastructure and illegal encroachments. With this, CM Bommai on Monday said that all illegal encroachments on storm water drains would be removed even if the properties belong to influential IT/BT companies.
A yellow alert has been issued in Mumbai as the city saw moderate rains on Monday with parts of the city being inundated. Meanwhile, the national capital witnessed a hot and humid day on Monday and rain lashed parts of the city on the intervening night between Monday and Tuesday.
Parts of Odisha and West Bengal have also been been battered by heavy rains as a depression formed over south Chhattisgarh and adjoining southeast Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal is likely to experience heavy rains until Tuesday morning, as per the Met department.
