BANGKOK, 26 August 2022 – The Department of ASEAN Affairs from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Thailand, hosted the ASEAN Project Development training for 64 Thai Government Officials from 22-24 August in Bangkok.
In his opening remarks, Deputy Director-General of Department of ASEAN Affairs Bolbongse Vangphaen stressed the importance of ASEAN’s cooperation projects and programmes to enhance ASEAN’s capacity in dealing with multifaceted challenges as it moves towards ASEAN Community integration.
He remarked that ASEAN has already embarked on the development of the Post-2025 ASEAN Community Vision. He emphasised that relevant Thai agencies are in an important position to develop quality project proposals that will help promote concrete undertakings in the respective ASEAN Sectoral Bodies.
He further expressed hope that more project proposals from Thai agencies will be implemented at the regional level to reinforce Thailand’s constructive role in the ASEAN Community building, as well as bring about concrete benefits for the wider ASEAN region.
The trained officials from the various Ministries and Government Agencies in Thailand participated in the three-day training. Through presentations, exercises and group work, the Thai officials were also educated by the ASEAN Secretariat (ASEC) staff on developing regional project proposals and managing ASEAN cooperation projects using a results-based management approach.
As the training concludes, participants were able to develop and present nine drafts of regional project proposals on the development of standards for travel to ASEAN Countries; biodiversity of livestock; improving ASEAN standard of higher education systems; development of ASEAN Air Forces’ standard operating procedures for humanitarian assistance disaster relief; improving capability to mitigate misinformation through social media, cyber security; education advocacy campaign; improving digital literacy for the ASEAN workforce, and protection from child exploitation.
The drafts were developed using ASEAN project proposal format. ASEC encouraged proponents to finalise the proposals incorporating the inputs that were provided and submit them to ASEC for further processing.
The training is a joint effort of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand and ASEC.
