Potential in the NBA is exciting, but it’s also frightening. Realistically, it’s like any other unknown variable in that sense.
Betting on potential is a high-risk endeavor. Often, whatever it is that you thought had potential doesn’t live up to it. At the same time, if you see enough of it in something, it’s difficult to hold onto your assets.
It’s one thing to see potential in a player, but until they actualize it, it remains an unknown entity. At the same time, some players are already productive, but it’s hard to envision them improving far beyond the point they’ve reached.
We’re not saying Chris Duarte of the Indiana Pacers can’t improve. Still, at 25 and without elite athletic traits, it’s easier to envision a world where he’s a mostly finished product.
