Brentford manager, Thomas Frank has praised his Bees for a “complete” performance in their 3-0 Premier League win against Southampton.
Quick-fire goals from Ben Mee and Bryan Mbeumo – who provided the assist for Mee’s opener – saw Brentford lead 2-0 at half-time, before Mathias Jensen’s 80th minute header completed victory and a third consecutive clean sheet.
Frank consequently was left delighted by the team’s performance despite still missing Pontus Jansson, Shandon Baptiste and Frank Onyeka as the trio remain absent with injury, despite having resumed training.
Speaking post-match about the Bees’ comfortable win which put them up to seventh – above West London rivals; Fulham and Brentford, Frank commented: “I think the first half was an overall performance, maybe the most complete this season, because I think we controlled and dominated Southampton.
“We created a lot of good chances and opportunities where there was, of course, some clear-cut chances, but also some last-second blocks from Southampton.”
Frank added that he loved “the way we looked in the first half,” in which they managed “two good goals” amidst a “more even” second half, in which the visiting Saints went “hard” to try and salvage a comeback draw at minimum until Jensen struck “a fantastic goal” to seal victory.
Frank also handed fullback, Aaron Hickey his first start since a 5-1 loss at Newcastle in October, with the Danish manager impressed by the Scotland international “played well in the 60 minutes,” before he was replaced by Mads Roerslev.
On the prospect of chasing a potential Europa League or Europa Conference League spot for next season, Frank teased: “You can see how strong the squad is – they are full of confidence, the way they’re playing. I really like that.”
Brentford will look to extend their nine-match winning league run next weekend as they face a tricky trip across London to Arsenal, in a 3pm GMT kick-off at Emirates Stadium on Saturday 11 February.
