A light moment was witnessed after President William Ruto tried to access the newly launched short SMS code for the Hustler fund.
Ruto was using *254# to access the loans live at the Green Park Terminus on Wednesday.
After dialing, Ruto received a message prompting him to retry after 30 minutes.
“Dear customer, please try again after 30 minutes,” the message read.
After numerous trial, Ruto was eligible for Sh2,200.
The President said, right now, there are 6,000 requests being received per second.
Kenyans who have subscribed to Safaricom, Airtel and Telekom will be required to dial the short code to access the loans.
Cabinet secretary for Co-operatives and SMEs Development Simon Chelugui had said there will be no registration required for the Hustler Fund.
Chelugui says borrowers will use an SMS short code that will take them to a certain menu, leading all the way to the application of the loan.
“We urge members of the public to disregard all forms of communications inviting them to register for funds on a website or via a phone number,” he said.
