Kiambu Woman Representative Anne Wamuratha, who is allied with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), was on the receiving end after photos of her donating bread to needy families in Kiambu were shared online.
The lawmaker was in Ruiru Constituency located in Biashara Ward, on Monday, January 23, where she shared breakfast with children as they re-opened schools. She also donated a packet of maize flour and bread to their parents.
“We will work hard to improve the lives of our people through empowerment programs as our people are not lazy, they only lack opportunities and together we move forward,” she stated.

However, her act of kindness seemed to rub others wrongly. Some questioned why she gave parents bread instead of opportunities to raise school fees.
One of them called upon the politician to advocate for lowering food prices instead of giving peanuts to the community.
Wamuratha responded, “One thing at a time. We are advocating for production and proper factories to be built so that they get employment and afford three meals a day. They have the capacity.”
One Kenyan was shocked that the politician took the photo after donating one loaf of bread costing approximately Ksh60.
However, in her defense, Wamuratha noted that she also donated a two-kilogram packet of flour adding, “I felt fulfilled as we push for bursaries and jobs.”
Some accused politicians (in general) of being disconnected from the needs of Kenyans as they struggle to make ends meet as the cost of living becomes unattainable.
“Do not give a poor man fish, give him a fishing rod and teach him how to fish. But politicians choose handouts. Those poor people will keep coming back with empty baskets to be fed,” another suggested.
On the other hand, she was praised by some who opined that every act counts since some of the county’s residents could not afford the bread.
“She is just giving out something to someone who needs it,” one user defended adding that Kenyans were quick to judge Wamuratha.
An incident that occurred in 2021 where the politician was captured throwing cake at people during an event came to haunt her.
