The US Department of State has approved a possible Foreign Military Sales (FMS) to Germany for Falcon III wideband software-defined radios.
As per an announcement by the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) on 27 February, the proposed sale comprises L3Harris Technologies Falcon III AN/PRC-117 and AN/PRC-160 radios as well as various spare parts, training, and technical and logistical assistance for an estimated USD281 million.
The proposed sale will improve security and interoperability between Germany and other NATO military forces.
AN/PRC-160(V) is a tactical high-frequency (HF) and very-high-frequency (VHF) manpack radio that supports communications up to Top Secret Level. The radio covers the 1.5 to 60 MHz frequency range while providing 20 W HF and 10 W VHF power and wideband data rates up to 120 kbits/s.
