PADUCAH — Potentially dangerous cold continues this week, along with slick, snow-covered road leading to hazardous driving conditions.
We have activated a Weather Authority Alert through Tuesday, for subfreezing temperatures, dangerous below-zero wind chills, and continued travel impacts from snow.
While most of the accumulating snow has ended for our area, a few snow showers will be possible today from the MO Bootheel into TN and KY. An additional 1/2″ of snow is possible in a few spots, with continued slippery driving conditions in these areas.
The biggest impact over the next few days will be an extended period of cold temperatures and possibly dangerous wind chills this week. We may briefly sneak above freezing for a few hours on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons, otherwise, most of the week will see temps remain below freezing.
Potentially dangerous below-zero wind chills will be likely again on Tuesday morning, when readings could drop as low as -5 to -15.
Continue to take steps to keep your people, pets, and pipes safe during this cold snap. Dress in multiple layers if outdoors. Make sure any indoor heating sources are ventilated properly and away from flammable materials. Do not plug space heaters into extension cords or power strips. Bring pets inside if possible, or make sure pets and livestock have adequate warm shelter and unfrozen drinking water if they have to be outdoors. Insulate indoor pipes if possible, or be ready to allow faucets to drip, and open cabinets to allow warm air to flow around pipes. Seal up any drafty areas around windows and doors. Check your vehicle batteries and winterize vehicles.
Continue to stay with WPSD Local 6 as we track this round of impactful weather.
