Berlin (d.de) – In view of continued attacks on civilian infrastructure such as energy supply systems, the German government is ramping up its help for Ukrainian civil protection. “With the winter shield assistance that we are providing to Ukraine, we are helping the people there to get through the bitterly cold winter. This assistance includes not only air defence systems but also generators, blankets, tents and battery storage units,” explained German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock.
More than 500 power generators with a total value of around 3.5 million euros are intended to strengthen the country’s energy infrastructure. More than 800 generators and 15 battery storage units have already been supplied to partners in Ukraine by the Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW). In addition, the THW is currently preparing a shipment of over 900 heaters, 1,700 winter sleeping bags, winter clothing and a mobile field kitchen, as well as two water purification units. “We have brought more than 400 transports of aid to Ukraine. This is the greatest logistical operation in the history of the Federal Agency for Technical Relief,” said Federal Ministry of the Interior Nancy Faeser.
