Wolves have activated an option to sign midfielder, Boubacar Traore on a permanent transfer on 1 July 2023.
Traore initially arrived on a season-long loan from Metz in September 2022 and now that certain clauses had been met despite making just nine appearances, Wolves have activated their option to make Traore’s move permanent once the summer transfer window opens on 1 July 2023.
The 21 year-old midfielder has signed a four-year contract until June 2027 which will commence when the transfer is officially completed this summer, with Wolves having the option of extending that contract by a further 12 months.
Wolves Sporting Director, Matt Hobbs iterated that Traore “was always going to become our player,” despite spending this season only on loan at Molineux, in which he scored one goal which saw Wolves defeat Leeds in Third Round of the Carabao Cup.
Hobbs also stated his belief that Traore has “been a real success” despite managing just nine appearances in all competitions this campaign, having previously failed to sign him during the winter transfer window last season.
On why Wolves has moved to make Traore’s stay permanent, Hobbs commented: “We felt his energy, his enthusiasm and pace from the middle of the pitch would be really important, but we also knew his ceiling was high.
“He was a young lad who had moved from Mali, he’d had limited coaching at Metz, and we knew the technical side of his game would improve once he joined us, and we’ve already started seeing improvements in that area of his game.”
Hobbs added that he expects Traore to continue developing with “so much more to come from him,” under manager – Julen Lopetegui with view that the Mali international will become physically stroner and “more explosive” in his technical skills and understanding within games.
Praise was also showered by Hobbs for Wolves’ Head of Scouting, Ben Wrigglesworth and his recruitment team for identifying Traore, who “fits the model of a player” who can add “that energy in the middle of the park,” to boost Wolves’ attacking quality.
